Training on enhancing museums’ capacities in collection management, digitalization, and sustainability during emergencies

UNESCO cordially invites museum directors, collections managers, and other museum professionals from Ukraine to participate in specialized capacity-building training. This event is specifically designed to support and empower Ukrainian museums in the evolving cultural landscape.

Training Highlights:
  • Expert-Led Sessions: Engage in workshops and seminars led by international and national experts in museum management, cultural preservation, and digital innovation in the cultural sector.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow museum professionals from across Ukraine and build a supportive network to share experiences, strategies, and insights.
  • Practical Training: Participate in hands-on training sessions focusing on the challenges unique to Ukrainian museums, including emergency response, digital transformation, and community engagement.
  • Cultural Exchange: Experience a rich cultural exchange with a special focus on the preservation and promotion of Ukrainian heritage in challenging times.
  • Resource Sharing: Gain access to valuable resources and tools to enhance your museum's capabilities in various areas, including risk management, conservation techniques, and financial sustainability, among others.
Objectives of the training:

The training aims to provide Ukrainian museum managers with the necessary skills, knowledge and strategies to preserve collections and manage them effectively in the context of the ongoing war. The training will focus on:

  • Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning,
  • Risk assessment and Mitigation,
  • Digitization and Data management,
  • Packing the collection in emergency conditions,
  • Long-term preservation of collections,
  • Crisis communication strategies,
  • Financial sustainability tools,
  • Building community and International Partnerships.
Target audience:

This specialized training is specifically tailored to: 

  • Chief Curators, Directors, and Deputy Directors of both public and private Ukrainian museums.
  • A total of 60 qualified professionals will be carefully selected to participate in this program.

Selection Criteria:

  • Priority will be given to individuals currently holding positions such as Directors, Deputy Directors, or Chief Curators, especially those directly responsible for the preservation of museum collections in Ukraine.
  • Special consideration will be given to professionals from regions facing heightened risk to their collections, particularly those near active conflict zones.
  • Efforts will be made to ensure a diverse representation from various regions across Ukraine.
  • Proficiency in English is highly desirable, as it facilitates international cooperation and access to a broader spectrum of resources.
  • Note: Participants of the previous seminar held in Lviv on October 10-11, 2023, are not eligible to apply. However, other museum employees who meet the above criteria are welcome to submit applications.
How to apply? 

Interested professionals are encouraged to apply by completing the online application form no later than 9 February 2024

Successful applicants will receive confirmation of their participation by 19 February 2024.

Expense reimbursement:

UNESCO will cover all costs associated with participating in this training. Detailed information regarding expense reimbursement will be provided following the confirmation of participation.
