About event
On 22 December, the Lviv Culture Hub hosted a screening and discussion of the Spanish film Sorda, directed by Eva Libertad — a work that from its very first moments invites viewers into a delicate, honest, and deeply human conversation about love, motherhood, and mutual understanding.
The story of Ángela and Héctor, a couple expecting the birth of their child, reveals silence as a full and meaningful language of emotion. The film reflects on vulnerability and strength, dependence and trust, the fears that accompany parenthood, and a form of love that does not require hearing in order to be real.
The screening was followed by an open discussion moderated by Oleh Yaskiv — film scholar, researcher, and Director of the Sheptytsky Center for Cultural and Information Activities. The conversation became a space for attentive listening, sharing emotions and personal reflections, and exploring barriers to communication, experiences of otherness, interdependence, and the search for a common language between people with different lived experiences.
The event was held in an inclusive format, with two-way Ukrainian Sign Language interpretation, allowing for the creation of a truly shared space for Deaf and hearing participants alike.
A short video from the event is available online:
We sincerely thank everyone who joined us that evening for their presence, attentiveness, and openness to dialogue 💛
The event was organised by the Lviv Culture Hub and UNESCO, in partnership with the Ukrainian film distributor Arthouse Traffic, with the support of the Embassy of Spain in Ukraine and AECID.
