Lviv Culture Hub
About event
In July–August we held a series of guided tours “Getting to Know the Lviv Cultural Hub.” This was the first in-depth introduction to the space where the Hub now operates — its history and transformations — as well as to the people who research this history and continue to shape it today.
Over the course of four events, participants had the chance to look at the building at 6 Knyazya Romana Street from different perspectives: through architecture, design, restoration art, and even the sounds of radio.
🔹 The first tour (July 18) with artist-restorer Ira Hirna focused on the history of the interior. We explored how the space has changed — once housing a restaurant, a Polish bank, and Lviv Radio — and how authentic decorative elements such as murals, marble, and stained glass were preserved during restoration works.
🔹 The second tour (July 25) with researcher Olha Zarechniuk introduced the architectural concept of the building. Participants learned about its owners — entrepreneurs Ludwik Stadtmüller and Karol Czudżak, about the innovative use of a reinforced concrete frame in housing, and about the eclectic mix of styles unusual for Lviv — from Neo-Gothic to Secession.
🔹 The third tour (August 1) with architect and designer Oksana Shumelda focused on contemporary transformations. We discussed how the Hub’s space is being shaped, how functionality and openness are combined with respect for history, and also visited the House of Sound exhibition and event space located in the same building, to see how different environments coexist under one roof.
🔹 The final tour (August 12) with composer Ostap Manuliak and researcher Bohdana Tkachuk highlighted the media history of the building. We traced how Lviv Radio once lived and resonated within these walls, what has been preserved in archives and collective memory, and how this tradition continues today in the format of the House of Sound.
This concluded our summer tour series, in which we introduced the community to the space of the Lviv Cultural Hub and its activities. At the same time, we had the chance to look anew at the architecture, design, and memory of the building at 6 Knyazya Romana Street.
Many thanks to everyone who joined us — and we look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming events at the Hub!
