On August 29–30, Barcelona hosted MONDIACULT, the world’s largest conference on cultural policy, which brought together participants from over 190 countries. Among the key topics were cultural rights, digital transformation, education, the cultural economy, climate action, peacebuilding, and the role of artificial intelligence in culture.

One of the official side events was “Culture for Peace and Resilience”, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, AECID, and UNESCO. The event focused on the example of the Lviv Culture Hub as a space for cultural resilience, professional capacity building, support of creative practices, and international cooperation during the war in Ukraine.

Representatives of Ukrainian and international institutions took part in the discussion:

  • Tetyana Berezhna, Acting Minister of Culture of Ukraine, and José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, addressed the participants with welcoming remarks.
  • Anastasiia Bondar, Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine, outlined the development of the cultural sector in times of war.
  • Serhiy Kiral, Deputy Mayor of Lviv for International Cooperation, shared the city’s experience in strengthening communities through culture.
  • Antón Leis, Director of AECID, spoke about the agency’s support in Ukraine.
  • Krista Pikkat, Director of UNESCO’s Culture and Emergencies Entity, emphasized the importance of partnerships with Ukrainian institutions.

The event concluded with remarks by our project manager, Oleksandra Sosnovska, who stressed that culture is not only a source of resilience for Ukrainians in times of war, but also a vital element of the global cultural dialogue in the face of information threats and cultural conflicts.
